I found this at today's rally with the Swansea Club. At first glance I assumed it was a pound coin as it very similar in size and weight but on arriving home
I did a comparison and the find is slightly smaller and covered in tiny dimples (both flat surfaces and the edge).

I've enclosed some picture I've just taken to give you a better idea as my description is rather vague.

Item alongside an actual pound coin,
Both edges - pound and item.
Close up of surface of item
Funny - Created a lighting set-up to make it look like a 'crescent' moon.

Cheers

Just an update on this item. Its been in Lemon Juice for a couple of days an the people who told me that the bubble effect was corrosion were wrong.
As can be seen in the pictures, the whole structure consists of these globular 'thingys' (that's a technical term).. As can also be seen from the rather poor quality
crop of the reverse, the next level down also appears to be constructed the same way. Does this help in any way to identify what it actually is?
Cheers

Looking at it Neil. it seems as if the dimpling/bumps are part of the casting not due to erosion..
Although the crescent was a funny pic, if you look in the shaded area you can get a better idea of the pattern.

My thoughts are that it's some type of non-slip insert from a foot of some type.

Update. Took this piece to my local club meeting on Wednesday and 'Charles', one of the experienced detectorist had a look and put it to his mouth
and blew through it!!!  (Its probably a metal filter of some kind).

Phew.. That took some time to sort but at least I can just drop in in my collection box now.
