Think this half might actually be a Rumbler bell but is similar and found in Wales.

This picture shows my finds from a rally near St Albans a couple of years ago. I was lucky enough to get 5 crotal bells, although the big one on the left is broken. Never had one before or since.

I've a few but have only had one nice patina/unbroken in Wales. I know people in England who have whole sets including the named and the very huge ones.
Considering what they are supposed to have been used for you would think that the narrow tracks going round the Welsh mountains would be ideal locations to find them.

On the other hand people in England say "I've never found a cow horn protector". I'd still rather have a bell !

Mick I think we don't have them to find as they must have been more of a "warding off the devil" or similar in the richer areas of the country. A guy I know near Reading has over a hundred mainly off flat fields in less than seven years. They also seem to have more horse brasses.

Found peices of both crotal and rumbler bells in the Vale, which are unfortunatly not in good condition, but they are out there.
