Giving to please

Do you ever give any of your finds away or do you just hold on to everything ? I was recently showing my 8 year old Grandson
some of my finds, [ he's military mad, ] as soon as he saw 6 army badges that i've found his eyes lit up, so how could I refuse.
He took them to school the next day and proudly showed them to everyone including the teacher. Now he wants them framed and
hung on his bedroom wall.
                                           It's amazing how much pleasure I got from giving something to someone who appreciates them,
rather than hiding them away in a case.

Some of my Roman bronzes and a brooch ended up in a classroom in New Zealand
Had a video link and answered questions that kids and parents were asking at school open day........result lol

Dylan all my military badges I gave away even the silver ones to a friend who collects them, they mean so much more to him than me so that was the best place for them.......... He buffs em right up

After recording the majority of my Roman coins go to the local primary school nearest to whichever site as they really do make history come alive for the children

I've started given things to the farmer whose land I metal detect on - a silver ring (which could be one of his daughters' rings) and a sweetheart brooch.

I'm not really finding anything at the moment to give away.

Apart from the good feeling factor of giving something away, The thought that somebody lost the object  thousands of years ago,
hundreds of years ago or even 80 years ago  and would never have even thought that somebody would find it and it would bring
pleasure to someone else. Thats what detecting is all about

now back to the main point ... whenever i give local talks, i tend to donate a few musket balls for the groups raffle prize.  they are very well received as many people have no idea of the weight of these objects, or their effect.

i have donated finds to local schools, and they are well received. The downside is that if the teacher moves on they take the objects with them, often away from the area, despite making it clear that they artifacts should stay with the school.

landowners have been recipients of many important objects after they have been recorded. 

Finally, the best response i had was when i was able to donate a roman coin to a young canadian waitress, studying roman history and had never seen a roman coin except in a museum .... we dined out on that for the rest of the week ... without a huge discount to the bill!!
