Hello Shonagh.I'm sorry to see you were made to feel unwelcome. This forum is full of helpful and friendly detectorists, please don't be put off Smiley
However,I have to pick you up on one point.
 Grin Grin Grin

Land round here is virtually impossible to detect on, I wish I lived in Wales or back home in Scotland.

I have worked a fair bit around your neck of the woods and personally I think you are in a fantastic detecting area and I would love to live around there.
I do see what you are saying though,I would imagine a lot of the land has been snapped up,but it's always worth trying for new permission.
For a start,Id be writing to some farms around Edenbridge ,loads of Roman history there.Around Dorking would be good too.I doubt you'll be the first detectorist that has asked them, but you never know,land/farms do change hands every once in a while, you might be lucky?

I've seen masses of good finds from the Kent/Sussex/Surrey areas in the detecting press.Have you got in touch with any of the clubs in your area? It's a great way to get on some new land.
Good luck with your tecting anyway.Happy hunting Wink

Hello Shonagh, I don't know what was said earlier, as those messages have been removed.
One thing I do know is that everyone here is always willing to welcome newbies and help them with anything, that they need to know about detecting.

I am surprised that this may have not happened, but please give it a chance with this site and attend one of the rallies and see the friendliness that is in abundance.

Welcome to DW.

I'm hesitant to point this out to you all. But I will anyway  Roll Eyes

Kev posted an article  in APRIL which caused a series of belittling remarks. Shonagh joined the site in JUNE.
I may be wrong but I think she only joined to make her feelings felt. And I don't blame her.

I hope the person who told her about the rude remarks also tells her about the feelings of MOST of the members. We all need a lot of encouragement when we first start detecting. I've been detecting for 18 months now and I still haven't found a Vicky coin never mind a Hammie so I know how I'd feel if someone berated my usual grotty finds. GUTTED.

I agree with the latest comments, though. Mostly we are a very nice bunch of prospectors who help and encourage ALL newbies.

For what it's worth, that hammered is eluding me so is the musket ball.
At the end of the day, I enjoy the hobby and that is all it is, a hobby. Every find is a bonus Wink

Happy hunting.

I posted something after the initial post but can't remember what as it was in April!

I know I would not have deliberately offend a new member.
