An interesting item - never seen one before as a detector find. Looks like 1st Century AD spade currency, have a look at this site and scroll down the page to see some examples. Some of them are very rare, but it says that fakes exist of all the rare types. Has Edward Besly at the museum seen it?

ohhhh sorry Stu.  i thought you already had it,  dohhh  silly billy, lol  the X4 is a great ride down,  but i think they are taking them offf soon to change to busses cos people complain about the steps to get on.
