Title: A few of my finds from the SCAN Rally 7th March 2010 . . .
Post by: Neil on March 07, 2010, 03:25:57 PM
I attended my first Scan Rally of this year this morning and had a great time. I am sure The Doc or Salty will write a full and fitting report later. For the meantime heres a few of my finds, that include:

A silver Vicky joey dated 1859
A silver Joan The Wad pendent. I had no idea what it was Peter filled me in on her so to speak. She turns out to be the Cornish JackO'Lanterns, pixie consort. Just did the foil test and whoop, whoop - shes silver.
A barrel tap of some kind.
A nice patina Vicky 1870 penny
A Johnny Foreigner or Token copper coin - any ideas?
Couple of pewter buttons and a broken Late Tudorish buckle.

Nice day out in lovely surroundings and laid back people. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks go to the organisers for a well run event!

Neil

Cheers lads - I was gutted with the buckle as it came out sticking from the soil looking intact. You know what I am like for buckles! :P Can't win them all though.

Joan is certainly a different one to find and she has a nice bum as well! ;D

Nice buckle Neil - I also like to find interesting buckles - gives a good indication of the age of the area, and an idea of what else you might find.
Let's see what the others found when they get back :)
I couldn't make it today - doc has diagnosed a trapped nerve in my neck, and digging will not do it the power of good! Can't wait for whatever has moved out of place to move back again!

Hope you are feeling better soon Debs. I did ask today if you were around as I hadn't seen you.

Radox baths and Tai Chi twice a week used to do it for me when I had the back issue. I did the Tai Chi for about 6 months and learnt a 60 pattern - not had a back problem since. That was 8 years ago!

Only a thought!

Neil

Nice Finds Neil, i think i'll leave Peter to do his bit, all i'll say is, Lovely weather, albeit a bit chilly at the start, Found the usual buttons (including a sliver one  :) ) bullets and tinfoil, had a Georgian farthing in fair condition but this one made my day, an angels wing, for reasons i wont go in to, this has personal sentiment for me, but that aside, i don't think its a bad find from a field  8).
Its 9.7 Grams and marked 925 as can be seen, how you see it is how it came out apart from the dirt washed off.  ;D

Yup, i haven't cleaned it yet, i'll pop it on with the farthing later ;), I'm quite impressed with it (the Deus) very fast recovery, weighs about the same as my E-trac battery pack :o
But what else can i say, E-trac 1 Deus 0  ;D ;D ;)
(wait for it :D)
