Have just joined Detecting Wales and just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I'm sort of getting on a bit but not quite over the hill and there's enough life in the old dog to enjoy detecting. In fact, once I'm out in the fields you won't see me for dust.
I started detecting about a year ago and believe me I've now got the biggest collection of rusty horse shoes this side of the border and I'm thinking of donating my extensive collection of corroded Georgian pennies to the local museum!
I've never been on a rally but I'd love to and hope to put my name down for one soon. I seem to have exhausted most of the fields in my area and need pastures new. You never know (so I tell myself) the next hole I dig might contain an actual Roman coin. I'd be so excited. Someting Tudor or Medieval would be nice too. I'm the eternal optimist.
Anyway, whatever I find or don't find, It's great to be out in the fresh air enjoying the beautiful scenery. I've seen hares, a weasel and lots of different birds. So even if the detecting finds don't amount to much and horseshoes are thin on the ground, there are other compensations.
I have a Garrett 250 Ace and have just got a Laser hawkeye. I don't know which I prefer yet.
That's all for now. Good luck with the detecting everyone. May the force be with you and the finds keep coming
All the best, laserlady.

Hello Laserlady

Welcome to DW I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of the best detecting site in the U.K.
Losts of advice and help if needed, just ask, someone will be able to help.

I'm the wrong side of 60 and feel as you do. It's a great hobby for getting you out inthe fresh air. Always something of interest to see and people to talk to. you might have the bigest collection of horse shoes you side of the border but I claim the record for Pembrokeshire. Hubby says we could start a scrap yard with what I bring home. But also like you I'm every optimistic.

Happy hunting

Thanks for your mesage. I'm not getting on too well with the laser, but shall persevere. Hope to get plenty of practice at next Saturday's rally. I'm from Brecon, by the way. There are some avid (and unscrupulous) detectorists in the area and I don't find much- but find lots of holes left by other people.
