Title: Any ideas...please!
Post by: dingdong on September 26, 2015, 07:23:02 PM
I was lucky enough to get out for a couple of hours yesterday, what a GREAT day for DETECTING!!
I had a few bits and bobs of which I will put up photos of later, but something which came out of the ground at a deapth of over a foot!!Well, what intreaguid me to keep digging were the two part signals I was getting, ferous and non ferous alternating each time the coil was passed over it.
Well as the photographs show, the reasons were quite apparent.
The arrow like motif is made of bronze or brass, sorry, difficult to say which.
The rest is obviously iron, but even the iron seems to have "inclusions,IE: poor quality.
Lastly, the shape is a little shield like,is this coincidental? Or just where its been smashed by the plough.
The way the "arrowhead is attached is really belt and braces, seems a very strong way to put on a " decorative" piece .
Anyway, many thanks for looking, and I await all your valued comments.👍
PART 2....SUNDAY.
Had a further look at the "arrow head" and its definatly made of copper! NOT brass as I originally thought, also upon cleaning,it has now revealed some kind of decoration!!
Curiouser, and curiouser!!!

That is an odd ball find. My first thought was a bridle mount that had been repaired but at 3 in it's a bit big. I'd stick with a mount of some sort but have no idea what.
Another one for the whatcha-ma-call-it bucket I think.

Good thought Greg, but why copper? And also why is it so ornate?,and did they make iron box's? and for what purpose? If so,what sort of era did they make such things?
Those are the questions I am asking myself.... Quite baffelling!!
Anyway, Greg, many thanks for your contribution, and if you come up with an more ideas, let me know please!!👍
