I am a member of the Detecting Scotland forum and thought it would be a good idea to enjoy the best of both worlds by signing up for this one too! I took up the hobby last year after taking early retirement and as I enjoyed history and walking, it seemed like a good idea to combine the two! I'll be heading down to Wales at the end of September and will be staying for a few days near Porthmadog. I won't have much time to spare but hoping to get a days beach detecting. I have heard about Black Rock sands as a reasonably good location but can anyone recommend any others within a short drive time from Porthmadog? Cheers!

welcome to DW mate , black rock sands is huge and you can drive onto it and all over it but beware of soft sand , try the little harbour at BORTH-Y-GEST  , just on the outskirts of porthmadog , I detected there last year and had a few nice bits and bobs towards the top end near the steps , it only floods on the bigger tides so its almost always detectable , its a lovely area , enjoy yourself mate and good luck
