I used a X-terra 705 and  had some super finds, and very easy to use, I now use an E-trac but still have my trusty old X-terra, If you can manage to get an X-terra in your price range go for it you wont be sorry

Hi Dave,
Yes its a minefield out there you do need to do some reseach before spending lots of cash on a new machine only to find it's no better than the one you have already.
The Ace 250 is Super starter machine and you will find with it, A good way to try  out different machines is on the rallies Most of us would be more than happy to let you try out our machines
If your at the Farmer Phil rally I will bring the X-terra and you can have it for the day
also talk to Chef Geoff he is a detecting guru  Wink
Hope this helps

You are welcome to try out my Golden Mask 3+ at the next rally. It's a very easy machine to use, very deep and sensitive. Fast recovery so covers ground fast. Only bad points are weight (my right arm is longer than my left now) and I dig quite a lot of chunky iron out.
