If I can come away from a dig with at least one silver coin, preferably a hammy ;D but early milled silver is very welcome :D - then I'm happy.

British coins were debased in 1947. In otherwords they were silver before this date. After, an alloy was added as it was cheaper. Consequently coins that come out of the ground with date 1947 onwards tend to be very tarnished. Same thing happened in Roman times!!!!........and Medieval .....same old, same old ::) Title: Re: The decline of british currency .
