Woke up early this morning and thought I can't be bothered digging in the cold mud, so I'll try a beach for a change. I always used to do well on the beaches and its been a while, so what the Hell.

Headed into the Glorious VOG and was on the beach by 10.30am. There was an area I wanted to go towards that some years ago I had made a few decent finds, so I headed off with my trusty X-Terra 30 (I prefer this on the beach to my Explorer as it settles down quickly and the recovery is really fast in comparison).

Get to my area after dodging a frisky Great Dane and within a minute I pull out a Edward halfpenny which turned out to be the first of 18 pre decimal coins. A range of coins from pennies to halpennies, brass threepences and five sixpences - looks like three of which are pre 1947, so 50/50's in the silver stakes. What a cracking little area this is. Its rocky but with small hills of shale/sand in between the rocks. The coins are either buted up against the rocks or sat on a larger slab thats covered in sand. Nothings deeper than six inches due to the slab. I literally don't stop digging until 1.30pm when I head home.

Granted I found 48 ring pulls (a lot of the older design - how geeky am I! Grin), a battered mobile phone, a Casino Chip from the Grovenor Casino - they have metal inserts, a brass bullet and I think that was it.

What a great morning out - I'll be back as this is a taste of what is there, I am sure there will be some jewellery lurking below the sand.

cheers

Cheers lads - turned out the the Edward coin I thought was a farthing was a silver sixpence in the end, after the crud was off.

So that makes six sixpences all told (four silver)

cheers

Well done fella, I've never had anything older than a WW2 bullet off the beach.  Good result there!

Hell Neil that was a good day out fella. I like pre decimal coinage and would be well chuffed with that collection of sixpences alone. Your beach should be looked at a bit more often.

Cheers lads - you are right Paul I certainly need to visit the area more often.

Heres a few more of the copper coins - this is how they came out apart from brushing the sand off them.

Nice finds. Good condition on the coppers considering 40 odd years being bashed by the tide and sand. Whats your oldest find on that beach btw?
