the only setting to use on a ace 250 is jewelry and   6 bars  lit on sensitivity i only eve4r use this mode it has been the best setting with good finds rate .

never use any other setting and my lad uses the same setting

in jewellery mode does the 250 discriminate foil , the reason i ask i once recovered a roman denarius with a explorer 2 ,i happened to have my ace with me and with foil descrimination on and it wouldn't register the coin .

I'm a bit rusty on the Ace 250 since I haven't used it for about 2 years..
I keep it as my back up machine.

The advice you had further up about jewelry setting and sensitivity at 6 should get you most of the goodies....

Higher sensitivity tends to cause falsing if you run it with higher sensitivity.

I'm hunting in Canada and mostly urban sites with lots of modern trash so it works best in that setting over here....if you're hunting older areas you may also consider the relic mode which should just knock out the rusted nails, etc..and not risk missing the hammered silver, etc...just my thoughts.

Bill

As the last post says............  Run it as open as you can with regards discrimination. Don't be afraid to have the Sens oe power half way as it is still deep at this. Too much or on full may cause falsing. It's surprising how deep these machines can go.

From memory, I think the Garrett Ace250 has 8 segments for the sensitivity settings.
In most cases 4 or 5 is ample to give stable detecting.

Depending on the land etc  you may well have to turn it down to 2 or 3.

On good land with no other detectorists  or EMI you may get it up to 8.

I would just tend to knock out the first Disc bar which is iron, especially when on an old site.

In the park you could well notch out the first 3 to 5 bars.

It's a cracking machine to start detecting or as a back up.

I use mine on custom setting and remove the first 2 and last one. Found this to be quite good.

I find that foil hits around mid scale then jumps up and down between the 3rd segment and the first 2 that have been removed. (well at east on mine anyway)
The last one seems to get rid of coke........which is good  ;D

After using them for a while you tend to see what is happening on the meter and recognise what has been detected.

Like I was told on here.............understand what your detector is saying to you.  ;)

Hi Boswell
The Ace 250 is a good little starting machine I used to set it on Jewellery mode and keep the sensas high as possible
