Certainly loos lie an annular brooch to my untrained eye!

Nobby - thats a stair rod holder for helping keep the carpet down on stairs mate! There was a minor debate on here many moons about them! Roll Eyes

No I'm afraid it's just a buckle Sad The golden rule when looking at Medieval Annular brooches is that the there will be a notch cut from the frame where the pin can pivot from, and without it they are generally id'd as a buckle.
Your's I would say is from a horses bridle.
