For simple down to earth fix points on the national grid reference use a Garmin etrex venture HC. Under a hundred pounds and has loads of features to help you. If you want to plot onto your computer using ordnance survey mapping with contours and everything use a Garmin csx 60 which six months ago was over three hundred pounds but is now under two hundred pounds. I won,t bore you with the full capabilities of each just go to the Garmin web site for that, but as i am upgrading at the moment the cheapest place to buy either at the moment is on Amazon. Hope this helps.   Smiley Smiley Smiley

Cheers for the info Paul. This isn't my thread but I mentioned it in passing on a different one. I remember you saying you had posted this when we talked at the Rally Saturday. Many thanks.

I've used a Garmin etrex Vista for the past three years. Easy to use although I still havent sussed some features. Garmin have a very good range of cheaper but practical models they also have good customer sevices.
