Title: French coin???
Post by: herbie on October 08, 2011, 01:27:41 PM
HI

I think this is a French Ecu, but no idea of age, any help with ID / dating it much appreciated. Sorry about the photos but that's as good as it gets I'm afraid.
One side has shield with 3 fleur de lys within, other side has a cross with a fleur de lys at each point.
Cheers
Herbie

Sorry forgot to add 27mm diameter, weighs 4.7g.

I know what you mean Wayno, that's what I was thinking at first.

Hi Herbie, Nice find and definitely one of my favourite coins and as Wayno has said it's a French Jetton from the 14th-15th century. Wishful thinking on the Ecu I'm afraid as at this time they were gold.  ;)
