A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by the European distributors of the American made Nautilus metal detectors to design a pair of headphones that could be used on their machines in Europe. They currently use Grey Ghost DMC's but none of the American makes are ROHS compliant and so can't be legitimately imported into Europe.
To help me along with this little task they sent me one of their machines to test against speakers and to play with for a couple of months.
Well I have got to say I was impressed to say the least, all of the finds from my post "All in a mornings work" were found with it.
It uses 1980 technology but has over the years built up a cult following due to it's raw power (36 volts) and sensitivity.
This machine has no bells or whistles and will feel and look quite familiar to any of you that started detecting more than 25 years ago.
So if you fancy having a go with this beast, I will be bringing it with me tomorrow.

Simple answer YES. It runs at 14 KHz so is very sensitive to small items (I have never ever retrieved so many shotgun and air gun pellets even with the Etrac) If you are running with any sort of iron mask on the SE then this machine will eek out any finds close by. Because it is 2 metal detectors in one the all metal will signal iron but the disc mode will signal the good target. It sounds a bit confusing at first but it literally only takes minutes to get used to.
I Have not mastered the subtleties of deep targets as yet but like any other machine it just takes a bit of practice.
Apparently It is no good on wet sand for depth as it's so sensitive although it does have a manual GB.
I'm not 100% sure how it will work around other machines as it sounds off if I touch the ground with my Garrett probe at 4' away.
But yes I would recommend it as a definite plus in any armoury.
