Could you please give me your thoughts on this little beauty ? I think it is a spear head and not an arrow. Looks Roman about 200 ad. Is it made of bronze. A similar definite Roman Spear Head below.

Really nice find isnt it. Id say its a bronze or a bronze alloy and its in great condition for its age. Im not 100% but id say it was to delicate for a spearhead. Well done Derek ! even so it does look a bit fragile to be a spear head. Judging by the 2p coin for comparison i'd say an arrow head is more probable though im not an expert. (if it were a thin fencing sword.....i'd be your man ;) ) Title: Re: Arrowhead Roman ? Post by: Chef Geoff on April 15, 2009, 11:06:22 PM Lovely find and quite rare, it is an arrow head and by the shape I would say it was Roman, I have a few iron examples with the same shape. being bronze doesn't help with dating it but it does suggest that it is from a regular Roman unit rather than auxiliary troops as they seem to have preferred Iron. Bronze continued to be used by the Legions right up to the 6th century. I hope this helps. If I were you I would carefully check the area for more as that is a war arrow not hunting.
