Techony and I hit a new field yesterday and these were just some of the finds from there. It looks promising.

If anyone has any idea of the last 2 pics, feel free to share. I'll try and get some better pics later on.  Though i think its a good chance that its a Unit.

Cheers & enjoy

Here's my bits including "Excalibur", a love token, a totally worn farthing sized disc, and another one that is totally corroded. I think the lead token is actually a counter and my Georgian halfpenny turned out to be a button. Still, I reckon the new fields have promise. Let's see what the next few months bring  Huh

Any ideas on top left? It would appear to be perhaps an oil lamp control piece. The disc reads: "Alsion Lamp Co. Birmingham"

out with techony today, 2.1.2011 he landed a surface find of a commonwealth penny and i got this cut half hammered -- john/henry?

sorry about the quality of the pics, but they were taken in the field.

to make the hat trick of silver, our colleague dave also got a lizzie.

hope this is the sign of things to come

cheers and happy hunting

Well done to you both on your first hammereds of the year. If you can get a better pic of the cut half, I'll attempt an ID, but wear might prevent it being too precise. it looks like it might be Winchester mint.

Thx to the wonderful eyes and research of techony - he has now identified the date mark as that of 1795.

I don't want to disagree, but I think you'll find that it has to be newer than that as the 1000ths (375) system didn't come in until 1854, Which is the same year that 9ct gold was legalised.

Thanks for the info Geoff. That's a rule that they didn't build into this nifty little wizzard then: http://www.gold-traders.co.uk/hallmarks/

Unfortunately, that probably puts us back to 1922.
