hello peeps,went to lougher estuary after work friday night and dug up this forged george 3rd half guinea ,bit gutted its not original but still a cracker  Smiley check the date ,100 years out lol.nice coin though

Mike it's probably not a "forgery" as such, the date legalises it as not an intentional copy. It's more than likely a gaming counter. They do turn up quite often. Still a nice and interesting find though, well done.

Nice one Mike.  I was going to say SNAP but I can see some differences.

When I found mine I took it to Birmingham Museum and they confirmed it was a forgery. I found out some time later that they were in fact forgeries passed off as gaming tokens. The way they got around the forgery was to stamp diliberate differenes to the original.  They penalty for forgery was DEATH.

Check mine out.

i believe the did come to a drastic end.saw an old notice in a pub once that showed a guy had been hanged for it and another for poaching. Shocked
