Title: todays finds
Post by: celticspikey on May 10, 2012, 07:19:23 PM
Despite the rain today i decided to see if one of my medieaval fields had been ploughed, on passing it i could see it had been, although on entering the field  i could see it was far from ideal for detecting due to it not being yet worked down, so i decided to concentrate on the edges as this had not yet been turned over.
My very first signal was the ring shown in pic 08 made of bronze and in lovely condition (looks medieaval) but not sure what date! any suggestions appreciated, next came a heart stopping moment (eyes only) when i thought i had my first hammered coin,as can be seen in picture only to find it was foil  :'( Other finds a roman coin, small buckle, george11 halfpenny, part of a bronze spoon, and a decorated bronze buckle !!.
My last signal to fall to my trusty minelab was pic 6, now i have lost count the number of tokens/jettons,and roman coins i have found over the years and when i first saw the portrait i thought i had another roman coin however on turning it over i saw the same type of design on my jettons, i would be grateful for any one who has found similar to let me know. All in all for a few hours detecting in the rain quite a productive time.

Well done.

The jeton is excellent - it's a Moor's Head type, like this, 14th to 15th century:
