Popped up to the lost ring field today just to check it out, unfortunately it's already been seeded, so I gave it a quick hours detecting. A couple of buckles, shotty caps and this chunk of silver.
It's a winners medal dated 1927-28 for the Cheddar Valley Charity Cup. No name and the owner is no doubt long dead but I'm going to do some detective work and see if I can narrow it down due to the location Wink

Would be brilliant if you could find the family. They could then be re - 'United' Em... "I'll leave now shall I".

geoff it would make a great story if you could find out the name of the team that won, and if they are still in existence and maybe donate it to the club.
with no name on it i doubt you'd be able to find it's owner but the club may still be around...perhaps the club is run by a multimillionaire who owns 5000 acres of prime detecting land?Huh
ok im getting carried away now, but you never know.

thats a nice find our Kev  . it reminds me of the find i had a few years ago when i found my sports medal......

A silver shield-shaped sports medal. Within the shield is a chevron with the date 1929-30 below. Above the shield is a cherub, and above this a scroll inscribed NEWPORT RUGBY. Below the shield is a scroll inscribed SUPPORTERS CLUB. The back of the medal is stamped THOMAS FATTORINI LIMITED BIRMINGHAM at the top, and below it is inscribed W.J. WALL CUP. 1929 ' 30 RISCA JUNIORS. Below this is stamped the maker's initials T.F. (Thomas Fattorini) and hallmarks, an anchor (for Birmingham), lion passant, and date letter 'E', dating the medal to 1929.
