No body likes sticking their neck out, but hey when it comes to making a fool of yourself I've got it down to a fine art..so here goes.
I know I've seen something similar and the only thing that sprung to mind is the procurator coinage from Judea. Now Ive looked at a few and though they are not the same they do bare similarities in design ie tree or foliage on one side and urn or goblet on the other.
As I say I'm not sure but I'll keep looking. Brilliant find anyway

Very nice find db4,the letering around the edge looks very much like Hebrew,Chefs id of a Judean coin could be right, would be a very unusual coin find if it is.

Well I've burned the midnight oil and some of the mornings, but to no avail though I now have a PhD in Rabbinic coinage  Grin
The plot thickens...the coinage from any of the three Judean revolts also bear similarities to yours and bearing in mind that these were big uprising and troops had to be sent from all parts of the empire, plus the possibility of trade with the Eastern Mediterranean does make it quite possible.
I've only just realised that it's a BIG coin, definitely one for the FLO or coin expert, as it could be quite an important find for this part of the world.

Any chance of some closer shots to show the inscription?

Yes 100%, the writing on it IS in the Hebrew alphabet and so given that it is not modern (I've checked), it only leaves a few periods when Hebrew was used on coins instead of Greek and the size points to the periods of "home rule" either 100-47BC or more likely around the first or second (Bar Cochba) revolts of 67-68AD and 132-135AD.
It's a brilliant find and as I can't find a direct reference it is definitely worth getting an experts opinion. Oh and please let us know Wink

And for the romantics amongst you, the thought that this coin might just of been picked up by a legionary in the rubble of Masada should send a shiver down your spine. If you want to know why you din't mess with Rome, have a read of how the Romans ended the siege and we think our troops are good Cheesy
