from the angle of the middle pic, i can see the  II [at 2'o clock position] and the hint of GEORGIUS from[ 6 to 12], i am fairly confident that its a Geo 2nd, but would need a better pic to confirm.

well found

Although I can't say I've seen evidence in photos, these are always described as cow horn protectors, which were screwed onto the ends of the horns to prevent cattle damaging each other.

Cattle horn protectors have a coarse thread inside and a cutting hole at the top shaped like half of a ying yang sign. It would go on to a horn and secure itself with a cut into the sharp end of the horn

This one is obviously meant as an end for something with a screw hole to secure it on the side. The hole at the top is circular rather than the cutting type. I would say it is using the same pattern of knob, but intended for mounting on a different part of an animal. I have seen them on the end of the extensions on a draught horses neck ring. They are called Hame Balls where they are still used on amish farms and traditional horse dressage.

Not quite Eric, these are the latest 3 I have found and so are to hand, all of which have a normal open end.

You are right in saying that the thread is the give away as it will be very coarse (wide).
These probably had many manufacturers some even being local and could follow many different patterns and so the one shown with a hole in the side is probably just a hybrid (belt and braces).

Oh and well done on your finds db4, a good few hours detecting. On the basis that there are no coins with my portrait on them (yet Grin) then that nose has got to belong to George II as you suspected. Keep it up.
