a friend found this roman ( i think ) coin last week and it is a bit strange , if anyone has any ideas please let us know

It's a barbarous issue roman coin mate. what that means is that its basically a contemporary copy of a roman coin, and dates late fourth century.   :)

It's a third century coin, as it is a radiate - probably Victorinus as what you can see of an obverse legend fits that best.
