Title: Is there any danger
Post by: Anchorman on October 30, 2013, 06:37:20 PM
It was quite some time ago that I read of a dtectorist being mugged on the beach and had his gear taken. I never found out if the police recovered it but I was wondering what the chances are of being approached by someone who is intent on stealing your kit. Has there been instances of this in recent years. I ask this as I feel I will be on my own for most of the time.

While on the subject of stealing I was wondering if my household insurance would cover my kit, when I go out.  I will be carrying well in excess of £1000 worth of kit, or should I insure it under a seperate policy. If so, is there a specialist company that caters for detectorist. many thanks in advance.

You probably have more chance of winning the Lottery than getting mugged for your detecting gear, get a grip Man !  >:(

if you are anything like me then you will probably be digging holes,  in which case you will have a spade/shovel nobody would be stupid enough to try and mug me whilst holding my shovel, because i would threaten them with my pinpointer.

I would think there is a possibility of being mugged especially if you night detect on a resort beach but during normal daylight hours then I would imagine the chances are not worth considering. If you start worrying about the possibilities of what "could" happen you'd never get out of bed ;)

you can list your detectors  on your house insurance. You would need to have the discussion with the broker if they cover theft when you are away from the house.

as for the mugging possibility, i think thats been answered

there is always a danger off being robbed especially at night ,if you think not you are deluded and need to wake up lol.
three guys approached me one night and asked me what i would do if they tryied to take my machine,i replied i will put one of you in hospital then when the other two of you put me in hospital i will get your addresses off the guy i put in hospital and come round your house for a chat.they laughed said i was nuts and left.
that could easily have turned nasty but luckily it did'nt cos im too pretty for jail lol ::) ;D

Most household insurance policies cover goods away from the house, they are all different and with differing excesses, give  them a ring.
