Eventually managed to get out for a hour earlier on a new permission. Although we were knee deep in mud it was nice to get out. Found a few pre decimals and a couple of well gone coins, but my daughter pulled this spoon and at first I ignored it as a modern find. After cleaning I realised it has age and although I have found fair medieval ones this one ponders a question I hope will be answered for this new area.

Possible! Very fragile on the front part of the bowl. Bloody big too, either a really greedy guy or a small shovel.
Lol think Alan has lost the plot.

Well dug alun.  I'd say it was low grade old pewter.  Hard to say what age though.  Pre Hall Marks, as we know them, pewter spoons were Maker marked on the bowl. After that the marks were on put on handle.
Looks like you've got a Cartwheel penny there, nice find. Shame they degrade so badly.

Thanks Val. No marks on the bowl but tend to agree on the pewter . Yep coins down here really take a pasting, have about four cartwheels now all in the same condition, even the silver are hard to gain any definition without damaging them.
Slowly making my way up to a Roman area, but apart from the odd little teaser it feels like I am miles off at times. Never mind love the search and our hobby.

Me too. Great to get out this afternoon. Think half of Pembrokeshire was on the beach. No finds to shout about except the greenest greenie I've ever seen that turned out to be an early Decimal 10p.   Found out where all the coins were hiding on the way back to the car. Too late by then, out of time and my back was screaming.

Just waiting for the fields to drain a bit and I'll be in them like a shot. Wish I'd got a Roman area to look forward to. I have got one field that showed some promise but a winter crop was well on it's way up. Now I can't get in without waders. Ah well.
