My advice is that if The Fisher 1236X2  is finding you a good variation of targets then stick with it!

The machine you have is designed to work in amongst iron and has a good reputation.

Depth gauges are okay......to an extent..........but aren't really accurate.

As to what metal, machines with displays will only indicate what type of metal which doesn't mean to say
that is what you will dig!  A lot of metals have the same/similar characteristics and so even that isn't
accuarte on a display!!!

If it's not iron, you're going to dig anyway.

I have had too many machines over the years and one thing I have learned is that you need time to
get to know your machine and learn what it is telling you.

So unless you are really unhappy with your machine, fine, sell it and buy another. BUT, if you are finding
stuff, save your money.

I have read very good reports about the 1236X2. Don't worry that you are in a minority with a particular
brand of machine. People can be like sheep sometimes!  Wink

thanks for advice rjm ,im just thinking my machines a little outdated, and ,sometimes if targets close to the surface (i.e. cans and bottle tops ,and iron.its hard to distinguish just by sound alone) but youve given me food for thought cheers

If you do want a screen type, and don't want to spend a fortune, the one I'd go for (other than a Minelab multi-frequency and multi tones) is

The Omega 8000 with T2 coil.

A friend of mine has one, and someone else who was a dealer, highly rate this machine for price and performance and is lightish.

I've seen his finds after a day out. Hammered, cut quarter, etc.

The other one that has a nice screen, is light, and easy to use is Minelab The X-Terra.

No doubt you'll get other people tell you differently but do your own research and go with what you feel is right for you.

Personally, if I didn't have the Deus the Omega is the machine I'd be using

I have a Teknetics G2,I'd recommend it to anyone.Check out some of the youtube videos of it.It's exactly the same as the Fisher Goldbug SE.They're a good, mid-range priced machine, great on the beach and really light too.

A lot depends on how much you want to spend !! , and as rjm says only change if you are truly unhappy with your fisher, A very good mid range machine is the Minelab X-terra 705 very simple to use, deep and accurate with a large display, you should pick up a second hand machine for about £350/£400. Another good mid range to look at is the Hawkeye.
If you want to spend a tad more then look at the E-trac A super machine but does take some getting use to.
Also look at at the Deus a very light machine and will match the E-trac for performance, But both these machines come with a high price tag  ( Don't tell rjm I like the Deus  Wink)
A good way to try before you buy is ask the guys on the next rally to have a little go with there machine 9 times out of 10 they will only to happy to give you a demo
