I found this pocket watch on a recent trip to the beach. I didn't realise what I had until I got home and started to strip away the encrustation . It was at least 18" -20" deep and  I had to go into the hole to get it out ;the Minelab sovereign found it no problem!!.
It turned out to be a two case silver pocket watch .
The mintmark is a crowned leopards head with the makers mark  W-K and a strange date mark -its a sort of reversed D or Q in a rectangle.
I haven't worked that out yet but it must be old because the  watch workings are marked A BURTON LONDON 1825 !!
When I pulled it apart all the brass workings fell out into my hands -all ferrous bits had rusted away after 200 years or so in the sand.
I have to marvel at the craft ,the workmanship the sheer skill of the watchmaker who had no power tools or electric light .How  did they do it ? the precisely made parts are  absolutely tiny.

On a weird coincidence the name A BURTON is the same as the  two most famous sons to come from the town that   the watch was found near - Anthony Hopkins  and Richard BURTON - Strange but true !!

Any help to ID it will be very welcome  more pics to follow
