Title: A few of our current members finds to provide inspiration . . .
Post by: Neil on September 22, 2010, 05:43:54 PM
Here is a few of current members finds that are listed in the Gallery to provide inspiration for new and old members alike.

Finders include myself, James, TaffLaff, Steven King, The Doc, Admin, Maxine, Zorro, Roman Ray, Staterchaser, Alan, etc.

When the fields seem bare and the rain is belting down, just remember its only a beep away!

Cheers all
Neil

Way to go James - you always produce the goods! When did you find that beauty?

Just to add to this -  quite a few of the items (iconographic ring, guinea, palstave, coin group, tudor hook, etc) I have just posted were found by James - a longstanding DW member and good mate of mine.

I can't find a photo of your Roman oil lamp suspender though - an extremely rare find for these shores.

Nice one mate
Neil

Amazing find James - thanks for posting it!

If I remember rightly it graced the pages of Treasure Hunting as part of a quiz or something. To think that it was originally ignored by the MOW experts as nothing important. I suppose we can all be wrong sometimes. ;)

Anyone else who want to add finds to this thread that you cherish feel free to.

Neil

WOW Neil, I forgot just how much DW has contributed to the detecting community. Thanks for posting. Though I have never found to much at a DW rally I hope I have helped people along the way in some way or another. It is always a great social event as well with I hope many friendships being cemented.

Paul - your help has been immeasurable! You are a valued member of DW mate. Theres not many who have the years of experience that you possess. You pottery and flints expertise stands out above anyone else to say the least.

Plus I love watching you trying to put together a camp bed!!!!!!!!!! ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D

Thing is Ray I think there is more there but I have lost my permission. The farmer has retired and his boys were not interested in the farm so he sold it and it was bought by the Duchy of Cornwall who told me to bugger off basically and don,t come back. Oh well

Well this is my offering from a current site, all found within the last 5 weeks (about 11 visits), all are Roman. It is just to demonstrate how important the site is in all detecting, BUT, this aspect of the field was found purely by accident while looking for a lost wedding ring (which by the way is still lost). The field all these finds came from is roughly 15 acres in size, but the area from which the coins are coming from is less than an acre. I started detecting on this field just before it was ploughed and is now rough, so I have another bite at the Roman cherry when it is drilled and rolled.
So never right a site off because it has nothing obvious historic around it, good finds can be anywhere.
Good hunting.
