Title: Roman brooch or armor application Post by: dashunt on November 07, 2014, 12:29:55 PM Hello,
I can't identify my latest find (PoLand near Opole) so maybe here I will have more luck:). The only information that I get is that my find is very old and it looks like thing from Roman Empire? Something like brooch or emblem? Found by Teknetics Delta 4000 + 11''. My first ideas was: Mjolnir, cross of st. Anthony... Width: 25mm / height: 15 mm (http://voila.pl/index.php?f=1802952]cl3.jpg) (http://voila.pl/index.php?f=1802953]cl2.jpg) Best regards, DH Title: Re: Roman brooch or armor application Post by: Chef Geoff on November 07, 2014, 01:08:34 PM Hi Dashunt and welcome to DW ;)
I think you could be right with it being a Tau cross but I have my doubts of it being from the Roman period, as this was the emblem of the Franciscans order of monks then my money would be on it being medieval, I would be interested in seeing a better (side on) pic of the attachment points though. Well done on your find and I look forward to seeing more from Poland ;) Title: Re: Roman brooch or armor application Post by: dashunt on November 07, 2014, 04:41:39 PM Thank You:)! The first Franciscans was settled in Opole (city near my find) on 1241. It's an interesting hypotesis... Photos in better resolution attached but sorry for my low photographic skills.

Title: Re: Roman brooch or armor application Post by: dashunt on November 20, 2014, 08:57:06 AM Thank You guys. Funny thing about is that my best finds I found 200 meters from my house (this cross too). It's a agricultural region, village with 30 houses but I found there piece of Roman coin, silver Prussian coins (1768, 1818, 1867), German coins, something with napoleonic eagle, Prussian buttons, shells of Mauser (WW1), russian shells (TT pistol/PPSh) (WW2).
History of my region is: from 990 - Poland 1526 - Habsburg Monarchy 1741 - Kingdom of Prussia 1871 - Deutsches Reich 1918 - Weimarer Republik 1933 - Third Reich 1945 - Poland So it's a lot of possibilities:). Greetings! (and sorry for my english) Title: Re: Roman brooch or armor application Post by: Neil on November 20, 2014, 09:12:22 AM Welcome to Detecting Wales Dashunt.
