Having found a Samsung Ch@t222 G2-E2220 mobile phone uncovered by the driving wind the other day, I removed all the sand sticking to it, dried it out, and then managed to charge the battery up. A quick check on the contacts file eventually allowed me to track down the owner and today at 1125 am I was able to hand the phone over to a grateful young lady.

I'm guessing that returning my gold signet ring find may take considerably longer; but hell, its worth a try!   Wink

I hope so! I am presently chasing up permission on some land but have learned that the farmers may be prepared to say yes but the council and RSPB may stand in the way. I may have to travel a very long and convoluted path to succeed in getting permission to detect the land that I am after!   Roll Eyes

That's a cracking story - glad it still worked too. How long ago had it been lost?

That's a cracking story - glad it still worked too. How long ago had it been lost?

I understand that it was lost about six months ago but must have still accepted messages for some time. It had been laid, face down, some two or more inches below the surface of the sand but the high winds last week uncovered it ready for me to come walking by and spot it eyes only.

Initially, it was dead and the screen looked rather milky and the buttons and sockets were all full of fine sand. With some brushing with a 1" paint brush that I had cut down, and some gentle blowing, I was able to remove all the sand. I then popped it on a shelf over the gas fire and gave it a good few hours to dry out and got the screen to start looking something like normal. After some trial and error, I found a charger that fitted and "BINGO" it responded to a bit of TLC.

Hand over was a bit brief......I got a handshake, a thank you, and that was it. But having said that; I got a real nice feeling from having done my good deed for the week.   Wink

Beach detecting is not my cup of tea Chris, but I might take a walk down one Sunday for a natter.

Svaipa,  Many birds nest on the ground and will be disturbed if you go too close.  RSPB don't usually move on any of their policies. Like most charitable organisations, they are a law unto themselves.
