Bronze Age Socket Axe Head

spaceonwhite:
Haven't posted up in a while as haven't been out detecting much this year for obvious reasons but went out on Sunday and this little beauty popped up.
Find of a lifetime, probably never to be repeated again!

Bit of info off the FLO -

"The axe is of South Wales (Stogursey) Type and dates to the Late Bronze Age, belonging to the Ewart Park metalworking tradition dated to c. 1000 - 700BC. It is in good condition with the blade sharpening resulting in a different patina on the blade end."

Happy hunting!

It's always a good day when you find a bronze axe :)

N8:
Thats a cracker, well done.
Always wanted to find an axehead, no luck as yet but seen a couple pop up on rallies. Suchva personable item i think

Neil:
Great find - well done. Now get yourself a shaft or antler horn and leather binding and reattach it!!!!

Hope you checked underneath it. Often buried in pairs or more

Cheers
Neil

spaceonwhite:
Thanks all!

I think it was a casual loss as there is still wood in the socket so I don't think it was buried. I'll definitely be going over the area again several times though!!!
