A better bet, and its British, is to get hold of John Webb's "Successful Treasure Hunting" . Its 120 pages plus of suggestions that many just don't think about ie trigonomic points, prostitution, sludge gulpers.

It cost £1.50 in the 70's but there was one for sale on E-Bay the other day.

There's a few pages of ads at the back that are worth a look. "Best" Europe's foremost detector manufacturer. Plus Scan oval coil, 100 hours running time from one PP3, coins to 7 inches, larger items to 2 feet. All for £29 delivered to your door.
"Best" became Q-Tone and later Sensor the manufacturers of the famous Sensor 7K (find a knob off a brass bedstead in a scrap yard). Wireless headphones years before anyone else. The "windowing" signal booster (boost small signals, reduce the volume of large that could damage your hearing). They also produced the detecting "glove" for frisking and a coil that had no wire between it and the detectors control box !
Picture is the Mk II signal booster. If you didn't want or need the boost it could be used to improve the signal tone to better suit your hearing.
