Well guys, after about 3 years of rumours and hopes, Minelab has stirred. No one seems to know what is going to be released but on the Minelab home page there is a counter which is counting down the hours until the 4th May (Friday).
If it's just the new probe I'll die laughing so here's hoping it's the answer many of us have been waiting for.

Just maybe they're jumping on the technology bandwagon afterall. Could be an interesting battle of the patents warming up if they do...

Its probably a light saber!

After all, you do realise the date of Minelab's launch is World Star Wars Day.

LOL very good Neil. Though I'm a little worried how and why you know that fact  Grin
I don't think it needs to be radically different as the FBS system is still one of if not the best out there. But it's about time they listened to users regarding the weight/balance issue.
As for patents FBS belongs to Minelab so no problems there and if you mean the Deus most of the wireless tech is off the shelf and years old, the only new aspect is it's incorporation in a metal detector.
Given their past launches I'm not going to hold my breath as the Xterra was the last "New" thing they developed, before that it was the Explorer in 1998 and before that was the Sovereign in 92. Every thing else has been cosmetic upgrades.
We shall see Wink

All we need now is the Minelab publicity machine to thrust one into Terry Herberts hand, and say the Staffordshire Hoard was found with this new machine, and we’ll all be taken in. Or was it the Eagle Spectrum he used, so long ago one tends to forget.  Lips sealed

It was indeed the Eagle. Do you know that was the first programmable machine I ever had (actually I think it was the first  machine made that you could) and I'm ashamed to say that I only had it 7 months and sold it as I couldn't understand a thing about it  Embarrassed
I had the same problem with the Sinclair spectrum ZX, so ever since I have avoided anything with the word Spectrum in it Cheesy

Only 7 hours to go

If its a new machine won't it just be based on one of the current units?

More info
just copied this from foreign site

Model the CTX 3030 and it is a multi-frequency detector with wireless technology (headset), color display, built-in GPS, a telescope holder, waterproof to 3m, battery (additional box and rechargeable batteries). Now will be in two versions, standard (with wireless headphones and GPS) and initial (I think without a wireless headset and a GPS-only or without a wireless headset). Price a breeze, the current knowledge will be around 2700-2800 Euros)
