Title: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Kev on May 31, 2013, 05:50:13 PM What did DW folks think of the Hoard Hunters the other night on TV ????!!! ;)
Your thought will be interesting ........ Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Jassy on May 31, 2013, 06:09:06 PM It was okay,, I will watch all the episodes. My only critism was that I felt that there was a bit too much messing about, it's nice to have a bit of humour but it seemed to take up too much time.
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Mike on May 31, 2013, 06:43:11 PM agree with jassy , nota badshow buttheguy with thehat was a bit of a johnny vaughn type and spoiled it a bit
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: carling on May 31, 2013, 06:45:07 PM just thought it was 1 big advertisment for the ctx.
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: JBM on May 31, 2013, 07:24:53 PM They should have followed their own advice with their Do`s and Donts.
Wear Gloves when detecting and certainly do NOT place a dirty Roman coin in the mouth for a wash off. :o Jerry. PS I will be watching the following episodes. Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: brickie58 on May 31, 2013, 07:37:56 PM its got a chance to be good for detecting but that was to much from gary grandstanding for the cameras lets hope it improves
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Dryland on May 31, 2013, 07:44:50 PM the same as Mike really, I think that bloke with the hat was a bit
over the top with the megaphone, I would like to have seen a bit more detecting and maybe they could have done a section on the show about different detectors. One thing that did suprise me was that iron anvil. after discriminating out iron or abandoning deep digging iron, it makes you wonder what we may have missed or left behind. Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Rob1974 on May 31, 2013, 07:50:13 PM Is there anywhere to watch or download online?
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: JBM on May 31, 2013, 07:56:14 PM the same as Mike really, I think that bloke with the hat was a bit over the top with the megaphone and trying to be funny, I would like to have seen a bit more detecting and maybe they could have done a section on the show about different detectors. One thing that did suprise me was that iron anvil. after discriminating out iron or abandoning deep digging iron, it makes you wonder what we may have missed or left behind. They had the chance to let Dave Phillips and Barrie Plasom, who you saw at the start to show them how to hoover up the Roman coins. ;) :) Jerry. Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Richie sixpence on June 01, 2013, 03:46:24 PM I enjoyed the program and found it interesting :)
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Merriman88 on June 01, 2013, 08:14:41 PM The guy with hat needed leaving down one of those deep iron signal holes
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Chef Geoff on June 02, 2013, 07:58:30 AM I think you've got to remember that the program isn't aimed at detectorists so we are probably not the best people to judge.
Gary was not as manic as I feared but Gordon was definitely dumbing down to allow input from the "Archaeologist" later (I can't believe Gordon couldn't remember what a Urbs Romana is called), Hoard Hunters is a limited company and the guys, who by the way also have their own video production company so are no strangers to the camera, are making the programs as a business to make money and good luck to them. I personally don't think that (on one episode) it will have any effect on the views of detecting by the general public and the viewing figures will point to it's success or otherwise. Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Spooyt Vane on June 02, 2013, 10:02:33 AM i have met Gary Brun and Gordon Heritage in person and they are great guys with a deep love oif this fantastic hobby.,.They have promoted the hobby with the minelab forum and videos..They probably have no control over the editing and have restricted time on site..But good luck to two great members of our hobby :)
Title: Re: Hoard Hunters the other night Post by: Chef Geoff on June 02, 2013, 11:19:38 AM Rob Hoard Hunters Ltd is run by Gary so I expect they had full control over editing but I from a public perspective I can't see anything wrong with it. A few Roman grots may be just another day for many of us but try remembering how it felt when you found your first....when I've shown them to passers by who have asked "have you found anything" by their reaction anyone would think they were the crown jewels, so it's probably exciting to joe bloggs ;)

more detecting. I might apply for a job on POINTS OF VIEW, move over Ann Robinson.
