Hi all, decided to join FID - mostly for the insurance (but looking at the insurance-specific thread not so sure about the advantages now . . . ) so filled out the online form, sent my mugshot and the payment by PayPal. Heard from Gill with a query which I resolved, then a resounding silence for a few weeks.

Anybody know how long it actually takes for them to send the goodies? Don't want to go pestering them but would like to see something for my money . . .

i am aware that Gill has been having some serious email problems over the past week or so, it is best you call her to get an answer to your question.

Another way could be to send her a PM through the central searchers forum..

cheers

Thanks for your advice, Alan. I did contact her through the Central Searchers' site - didn't have the option of PM since I'm not a member but used the 'Contact Us' bit.

She replied an hour or so ago and tells me that my application is in hand but sounds like she's snowed under as FID memberships expire at the end of this month. Says she'll get it to me ASAP.

At least I know it's in the pipeline . . .  Wink

Let's be generous and say that renewals probably take less processing than new applications?

There is another ongoing thread about insurance, however it is at the end of the day up to the individual to ensure his or hers policy has all round cover for their chosen hobby. The buck stops with you Wink

Everytime I have renewed either my own or club members insurance with FID CS its always been a fairly quick turn a round.

I will shortly when finally stop work for Christmas  start asking some questions about the various polices.

That's the one I referred to in my original posting - it made me question the usefulness of the insurance offered by the FID/NCMD. But by the time I saw that thread it was already a done deal as I'd made my application.

Insurance is a necessary evil, especially in these litigious times; one of the few things you buy and hope you never use . . .

Speaking of which, I must chase up my car insurance renewal - it's usually here by now . . .

My FID paperwork finally turned up this morning from Gill, so that's one off the 'to-do' list. Straight afterwards a white van turned up to deliver the Sun-Ray pinpointer probe I bought from a US eBay seller a fortnight ago, so now that's nicely sorted too.

Just like buses - you wait ages for one and they all turn up together . . .  Wink
