Looks like a hare definitely. They made a roman brooch of a hare on a Time Team episode. As a matter of interest there were no rabbits in Britain until after 1066. William The Conqueror and the Normans introduced them to the country.

Most sources agree that rabbits were not introduced to Britain until the 12th to 13th century.
