Title: Last Two Trips Post by: wittsy1 on October 08, 2018, 12:52:32 PM Managed to get out last Sunday and this Sunday and got these. William III Silver Sixpence 1697 and what I think could be a Cannon Ball weighing in at just under 1lb and with a Diameter of just under 2 inches. What sort of date I don't know. Thank you for looking.

The cannon ball is ringing bells but I’m afraid there’s no tune coming to mind. I seem to remember there was a name for the small cannon but grey matter not as good as it used to be, Bet it gave a good signal though. Falconet???? Title: Re: Last Two Trips Post by: Val Beechey on October 08, 2018, 06:07:16 PM Sounds about right Chris. According to Wiki the barrel was 4 ft long and it had a calibra of 2 inches.
Well found Steve, not many of them come up. ;D Knew I’d heard something along those lines. Great. Title: Re: Last Two Trips Post by: wittsy1 on October 09, 2018, 10:21:54 AM Thanks all for your comments, some nice and interesting feedback.
Yes it was a belter of a signal Val and was a good 12" down. Mind with the ground still quite hard, I felt like I had dug 12 foot. Title: Re: Last Two Trips Post by: celticspikey on October 10, 2018, 09:01:20 PM Super search there wittsy, that is a cracking sixpence. ;)
