Hi Doc,
             whilst out at Talacre with Richie Sixpence last Sunday, I got my fare share of scrap iron and WWII odds and ends. At one point, I recovered what looked like a small hollow cone, made from a piece of cinder. Popping the item into my finds bag, I later consigned it to my scrap bucket at home.

             During the week, whilst sorting out the scrap, I noticed that several pieces had flaked off the cone, revealing a shiny metal beneath the cinder like coating. Some of the base metal had become sponge like and disintegrated upon cleaning.

            Any ideas what this thingy may be? Perhaps the tip off a AA Shell timing fuse???

is it the cone/top off a mortor or rocket???

Thanks Jay; never found one of those before. One never knows what Talacre is going to throw at you next. Hopefully, no land mines!

This is what a mortar fuse looks like new, and unexploded.

I think its more likely an antiaircraft shell tip (AKAK)

I found a fair few aswell i thought they were off the of a mortar for measuring distance or something was close Atleast i know what they are now

As can be seen...........the heat shield has gone, so the little critters inside must have fried!
