Title: Silver Denier Post by: celticspikey on June 12, 2015, 07:25:14 PM Sorry Dale should of put your name on shout as well ;) Here is the reply from the coin specialist, it took a while and has been seen by a few of them and finally got the ID. I will now have to get a value as the farmer will want to know :) I guess Spinks would be the first bet. ;) ;)
A Silver Denier of the Merovingian dated around 740’s. It’s from the mint of St Martin of Tours which is named on both sides (SCI MR and SCO MD) Martin has never seen another like it and says it is a very important find and possibly quite rare Title: Re: Silver Denier Post by: handyman [Alan} on June 12, 2015, 07:48:06 PM a lovely find Paul. Nice to see that the trade routes between austria/germany border area, were still active in the 'dark ages'.

Title: Re: Silver Denier Post by: celticspikey on June 13, 2015, 05:33:11 PM Thanks for your comments guys and girls ;) I was told it could fetch £400-£600 max at auction ??? ??? by a fellow detectorist , if it is it wont be sold any way, I would have thought that was quite low for a possible unique coin. ;)

It's nice to add another coin to the memory banks - just in case I see another one one day. |
