Title: Insurance?
Post by: Gedwelsh on February 20, 2013, 04:11:05 PM
Where I can I get insurance from? And do I really have to have it? I have visited the site of ncmd and there is a joining free? Also how much is the insurance?
Thanks GED.

The Ncmd is about 10 quid initial joining then 8 quid a year, the insurance is included with the membership, you can do it all online via paypal, you have to have  insurance to attend rallies etc and you never know when it may come in its basically 3rd party liability cover if anyone tries to claim against you for injury or damage to property.

http://www.ncmd.co.uk/membership.htm (http://www.ncmd.co.uk/membership.htm)

The NCMD offers its members representation at local and government level on all matters relating to the hobby of metal detecting.

All members receive free civil liability insurance up to £10,000,000 which includes cover both in the UK and while attending organised metal detecting outings abroad (Cover available to UK residents only:-see Insurance)

A voice at all NCMD meetings through elected officers and representatives.

Our own colour newsletter "Digging Deep"

These are just a few of the benefits available to NCMD members.

Thanks, that explains it well, I will join up to that then and then I am sorted, I have asked a friend if I can detect on his fields so I will wait until I am covered now.
Thanks,
GED

Are you going to do any Beach detecting ?? if yes then you will also need a licence.
These are FREEEEEEE  and available from Crown Estates.
There is a link through to it under 'Beach Detecting' in the Forum listings. Easy to do on line and they will send your licence via E.Mail.

To be fair also, you could also join the fid federation of independant detectorists, both NCMD and FID will give insurance. To join FID look up their web page or NCMD both have very good information pages and well worth a read.
