A decorated copper lid, suggested to me that it might be from a Snuff box,18th century.
Anyone know if this is so ?
It measures:7cm long & 4.5cm wide at the widest part.

It is a snuff box Stig, I think nearly every miner had them at one time some were plain, some more elaborate but most of the time the owner was identified on the lid, hope you can find the other half. Not necessarily a miners one but the general shape is the same, you can see a big collection of them at the Big Pit.
