I found these a few months ago. Found together in the same hole so as the dates re within a year I assume they were lost together. I am the new Sherlock holmes Wink Found on the site of an old T.B. hospital.

They are two half crowns I believe. Big old silver coins. Never found any others so two in the same sweep was quite something! Strange how the faces are more worn than the backs  Huh

Pretty sure they are Half Crowns Al.I've put a 1929 Florin and a 1944 sixpence alongside them to show their scale. Hope it works!

yeah,  it sure looks like Jon,  you can't always tell by the small pix without a comparison, especially as it don't say halfcrown on them,
wow,  just past the mid 1800's that would have been a big loss for that person to at the time, broke their heart i expect,  i hope it wasn't their fare home for a long journey,  or to pay   for the weeks shopping maybe, doh
Thanks for that Jon.

I read about an old T.B. hospital that was in the woods near to me. Long since gone and not much to show that it was there to be honest. I have old maps of the area and have found a few coins and cutlery on the site. I think that the patients ate their meals outside on occasions and the coins were found togeher. I daresay in those days that if you could afford to go to a T.B. Hospital, which would have been a private institution as no N.H.S. Then you'd have a few bob. Hopefuly the two coins weren't too much of a loss to the owners Al, but you never know. Must have been a big loss at the time.

If you click on the thumbnails the the large pictures of the coins are awesome! To be honest I am quite pleased at the details that show up.

hi Jon. yeah mate, i did do that,  someone was carrying a lot of money in with them,
Another thought  is,   I wonder if he or she took  them  out to bury them while they were in the isolation hospital waiting to die,  they wouldn't have allowed family in to visit and they may have not wanted to let the hospital staff steal it from them when they die, they'd  rather bury it first, hmmmm,

Interesting theory Al. Especially as they were found together.Don't know what two half a crowns would buy you though. Not a great deal I suspect but I don't know. Any idea anyone?

No camera involved Paul. Just played around with the settings on my epson scanner and scanned in as high a res as I could. It wouldn't let me do 1200 DPI for some reason so had to do 600 DPI. Very pleased with the results though.
