I found this today at the Highbridge rally, It was only after giving it a bath there appeared what looks like the numerals X I I IV on the one side but stranger still on the other side the edge is crimped around another piece of lead and there is another metal between them making a sort of sandwich. You can see the crimping and other metal in the bottom photo. Any ideas what it is please. Huh

Think it's too big to be a lead button (almost two inches diameter), too big for a dress weight too, but does look like it has the holes to attach onto something as a weight.

Thanks for your replies, one thing the people at the rally who saw the object agreed on is that it is not a button, as HH says its too large and too heavy.

I've cleaned it again and what I thought was another metal inside turns out to be a piece of shiny lead, I must have caught it with my spade.(note to myself.....be more careful!)

Nah, it's a hem weight from a georgian/victorian dress, they needed to be heavy to stop the dresses blowing up in the wind. Found several over the years.

Seems a bit big for a hem weight at 2" across. Not sure what it is though?
