Since you have had no takers on this I thought I would put my my view forward even if my limited knowledge just means bumping the topic back up for further discussion.

Don't know much about the Sovereign but the E-Trac is fantastic as I no doubt you will have read from the reviews. I went from a Garrett Ace 250 to the E-Trac and there was no big learning curve - it can be a switch on and go machine but with enough muscle and bells and whistles to keep the most advanced detectorist happy for a long time.

I suppose it does also depend on your pocket but certainly the E-Trac will be a machine to grow with and I doubt you would need an upgrade for a quite a while!

I am not sorry I went down the E-Trac route.

A bit late to ask now but why have you ordered a 10x12 SEF if it's coming with a Pro coil?

I tend to agree with Geoff on this one.

I personally thought the pro-coil was better than the 12x10 SEF.

I think you only benefit from a SEF if it's the larger one. Can you not send it back unused and upgrade
to the larger SEF.

I don't know if Geoff agrees on this?

Yes they are all waterproof. As RJM has said the 12x15 would be the coil to go for, you are right in saying you may loose small finds, but we are talking SMALL ie hammered quarter size. But this size will still grab whole coins.
