Title: Re: Wierd design Post by: Chef Geoff on June 07, 2014, 09:55:44 PM The pattern is ogham (goidelic writing) the bit I can see looks like the letters C and R, are there any marks on the inside to give an idea of age? You can still buy rings with it on but you never know. If you can photograph the whole pattern I'll see if I can get it translated ;)

Title: Re: Wierd design Post by: Chef Geoff on June 07, 2014, 11:05:49 PM Interesting ??? the problem comes by not knowing which way around it was written and also which letter is the beginning but either way it includes a Z or a Q neither of which are included in the modern Irish alphabet.
I find it hard to believe it could be an ancient Hiberno/Norse ring but stranger things have turned up and your in the right part of the world and the script is quite rustic looking, I would say the FLO or local museum would be the best place to get it seen just in case as they will be able to contact the few ogham experts in existence ;) keep us informed Title: Re: Wierd design Post by: Jimi nugget on June 07, 2014, 11:07:53 PM I will Geoff thank you
If any now else has any info it would be much appreciated Title: Re: Wierd design Post by: Chef Geoff on June 07, 2014, 11:28:48 PM Oh well forget that idea :-\ Just asked the better half (gaelic speaker) and she says it means "A Blessing on the Soul" and is a common message on modern wedding rings :'(
