This is a bit of a mystery and came from an empty field (almost no iron/no coins except for a cut hammered)  half way up a mountain.

The curvered stem bit is iron with a bronze or copper wash and the Mexican/cowboy end seems to be pewter and still revolves.

Certainly looks like a spur , Here is a photo of one I found last year .... minus the rowel

Thanks Alan. I was sat at the computer this morning trying to think what the revolving part was called. Rowel !

I'll have a good search through my old Detector User/Searcher/Metal Detecting magazines and see what I can find. I've a feeling there was a article at one time and it would be nice to get a suggestion of date.

yes it is a spur its nice to see you
still got the rowel on it patterned spurs
are usually medieval here are 2 which
i found on a old castle in merthyr tydfil
1 is broke the other i keep in a box behind
glass cause its so fragile thats a really nice
find you got there and rare with the rowel on
it
