I found this on the beach this afternoon.  I know it's a button and I can read the writing. It says

GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA  1907

It seems to be Silver set in Turtle Shell with a loop attachment at the back and measures 2 cm accross.

BUT, does anyone recognise what it might have been off and what sort of age it might be. Do you think it's Military.

Val

Nice going Val, Loads on the net about them;
http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showrecords.php?product=12130&cat=all

But they do appear to be just mass produced buttons as these;
http://cgi.ebay.com/GREAT-SEAL-STATE-OKLAHOMA-1907-BLAZER-BUTTON-/380253901816

Also most actually say OklaNoma and not OklaHoma as it should be. Even UKDFD have missed that.

Thanks for that Geoff.  Sent me running into kitchen with magnifier to check. Mine is def. Homa. and I'm pretty certain the insert is silver.
Something a bit different anyhow. Grin

Thanks Mike and Jan. Yes I could do with some knowledgable company. According to my M6 the beach at Wisemans is littered with goodies, all very deep though. If I dug every signal I'd need a JCB. So not knowing any better I made a rule for myself. Dont dig it if it's more than 4in or I can't get a return signal.
Makes me wonder how many things I miss. Undecided

Think I'll feel more comfortable when the visitors have gone back home and the sand has gone back to Devon. You do feel a little conspicuous digging to Australia and you can feel thery're watching and wondering. Need more practice. Huh  Plus I'm too shy  Roll Eyes  to detect where I know there should be hidden treaure. Grin
