Title: SILVER COIN Post by: Val Beechey on March 22, 2012, 07:56:54 PM I know it's a bit of a long shot but have you any idea what this might be.
Found on the beach today, it's silver (stunk the kitchen out when tested) measures 19mm and is quite thin. I have my thoughts but am not convinced, it seems to be struck very badly. The joke of it is, I had no idea what it was till I got it home (Geoff will love this) and hit it around a bit with a toffee hammer. It was just a black blob with something in the middle. Not in the greatest condition but I love it. ::) Val Title: Re: SILVER COIN Post by: Chef Geoff on March 22, 2012, 09:30:39 PM LOL Val...your terrible :D I'm attending a PAS workshop next month on find conservation and I'll let you know if they mention using toffee hammers ;D ;D ;D ;D

Although I have to admit that I was amused the other day when I heard a local conservator used a laser to remove iron-pan from silver when sulphuric acid would do the trick a lot quicker and cheaper... Title: Re: SILVER COIN Post by: handyman [Alan} on March 23, 2012, 10:11:31 PM i think the somerset area is one of a few areas trialling the self recording aspect prior to it rolling out across the UK
Title: Re: SILVER COIN Post by: Chef Geoff on March 24, 2012, 08:13:02 AM As far as I'm aware self recording is nationwide. Obviously self-recording is the main criteria as without doing so then the workshops have no real value within the PAS sphere.
